Avoid this popular Cape Town beach this Easter, as locals warn of major parking chaos.
Planning a beach getaway this Easter? You might want to skip Muizenberg. The City of Cape Town has intensified construction at this iconic beachfront, shutting down even more parking spots as part of a long-term revitalization project.
Construction closes key parking at Muizenberg beach
The City officially closed the parking lot in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre on 19 March, and it won’t reopen until mid-2025. This closure follows the earlier shutdown of the informal lot near the railway line at Surfers Corner.
With both of these essential parking zones out of commission, the city’s beloved beach suburb is set to become a parking nightmare—especially over the busy Easter weekend.
“Even though roads remain open, the City has also warned that traffic flow will be impacted, and parking near the beachfront will be tough to come by.”
Surf’s up: But where do you park?
Muizenberg has long been hailed as the birthplace of surfing in South Africa, drawing in both beginners and seasoned surfers alike. The beach’s warm waters, gentle waves, and family-friendly shoreline make it an attractive destination for locals and tourists.
“Muizenberg beach is much warmer to swim in than beaches like Clifton and Llandudno. It is flat, wide, and the water is generally calm, so is very child-friendly.”
Unfortunately, enjoying those waves might come at the cost of stressful traffic and limited access, especially during high-traffic periods like Easter.
Muizenberg’s charm can’t compete with construction chaos
Despite its charm, offering everything from cozy guest houses to self-catering beachside units. Muizenberg just isn’t the best choice this holiday weekend. Traffic congestion, reduced parking, and ongoing construction could easily turn your relaxing day into a logistical headache.
“The bottom line is, if you’re after a relaxing beach day with easy access, Muizenberg isn’t the spot this Easter.”
Choose a different Cape Town beach this Easter weekend
If you’re set on sun and surfing, consider heading to other Cape Town hotspots. Like Camps Bay, Bloubergstrand, or Fish Hoek, where parking and accessibility won’t ruin your holiday spirit.
